Endemic to South Africa, Gladioli easily survive hot, dry summers by lying dormant beneath the ground, emerging after Spring rains with a head turning show. Plant in clumps among other annuals or at the back of a border and stake to prevent wind damage. Plant at weekly intervals for a succession of blooms. Cut flower spikes when first flowers open.
